Figtree, 2025

Brand design and installation art

Club Figtree is a brand design project I did for my senior thesis. I designed a fictional club, focusing on exploring iconic imagery of paradise, namely the symbol of the paradisal fruit--the fig.

Throughout history, nightclubs have been spaces of alternative reality that reflect a “Paradise” or escape from the stresses of reality. Nightclubs have historically been sort of lawless, inherently activist spaces for people who need to have fun and escape the stress of the reality of the political climate. In many ways, they serve as a mirror to what is going on in the real world. In my thesis project, I wanted to explore this idea of nightclubs as alternate realities and discuss how they reveal the ideals of a society.

I did visual research exploring the type and design styles used in paradisal imagery, and examine further questions such as  how can I push the boundary of experimental design in my own work? I wanted to design my own fictional nightclub through narrative and brand identity and examine how historical principles and imagery of Paradise are relevant today.

When displaying my work, I wanted to do something bold and encapsulating. Though I ran into some issues with my original installation plan, I ended up making some tweaks and going with a video motion graphic projection that aligned with the vivid pink Risograph prints. The flowers collaged together form a kind of Botanical garden in rich, neon color. They surround, drawing the viewer into a world of their own.
