VENUS AS A BOY REDESIGN

My cover redesign and mockup, 2026

Venus' face is closer up is hazy and shrouded, romantic and elusive, reflecting the mythology of Desiree. 

For a 2023 project, I was tasked with redesigning a book cover. I chose Luke Sutherland's novel Venus As a Boy, a story about the life of a man named Desiree who moves to London and must make a living on the street. Desiree dicovers that he has a divine touch that compels the affected to feel love in a divine way. It is a bold, poetic, spiritual novel that I tried to reflect in the imagery of my design.

Upon reflecting on my old design, I thought I would re-vamp it, using the same imagery, but picking colors more intentionally. I liked that my first design had such bold text for the title, but felt the title as a whole needed to be incorporated better. In my 2026 version, the title is more cohesive. It is bold and tilts with the face of Venus in the background. The design more accurately reflects the "grunge" of the era the book takes place in--the '90s counterculture of London.
