Experimental FIlm
This is an experimental film made about being overwhelmed in social settings. Using Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro, I filmed and animated individual frames together to create a landscape that floods the senses. I juxtapose quiet moments of nature, distorted in bright pink saturation with loud, flashing text. Throughout, there is a sense of movement, the contrast in speed and tone allowing for the viewer to reflect on time and the ways in which we perceive and spend it.
To create the fuzzy warmth that represents remembered moments of calm, I took footage from my camera roll and printed each short video frame-by-frame in a contact sheet. From there, I crumpled up each contact sheet by hand and scanned them back in. I re-animated each video, now covered with an atmospheric texture and grain. Each crumple and fold produced a unique, subtle mark on the frames of video. Finally, I saturated the videos with a shade of vivid pink---a life-affirming color. The final shots of the video include a pink Risograph scan of a flower. It is similarly vivid, and upon closer look features gentle color variations. The video zooms closer until the flower is just grain, an unidentifiable texture, spinning and moving like atoms or insects--something small but alive.
